Improvisation is another avenue of musical expression for me as it allows for an immediate response to the contextual environment. In the live electronic audio realm this brings many exciting challenges as well as magical moments. Each performance is a unique experience for both audience participants and musician(s).
Moving from a more traditional performance background to primarily an electronics-driven realm, I found that I missed the physicality and direct control that is intrinsic to playing more "traditional" instruments. Working with Ableton Live I discovered its immense potential, not only as a powerful production software, but an extremely versatile performance tool. With these insights I began conceptualizing and building my performance rig, now comprised of a Monome, BCR2000, KP-2, AirFX, MPD16 and NanoKey. I put a lot of thought into organizing and mapping tactile controls into effective means for manipulating sound in a real-time environment. Using Ableton Live, custom digital signal processing software and the flexible Max/MSP programming environment, I have created a highly-customized instrument of my own, which continues to evolve along with my performance needs.
